FORT TOULOUSE - 1755
Personalities

updated 1-23-02

The following lists provide such detail as can be identified about people residing at Toulouse and vicinity in the year 1755. It is acknowledged that this is not complete, as the population of the fort area in 1755 numbered 40 soldiers and 100 other French inhabitants (of which some 80 were born there). These lists are primarily taken from Fort Toulouse Colonials 1717-1823 (Johnnie Andrews, Jr., Bienville Historical Society, 1987), and from original documents in French colonial archives [D2 C51 and D2 C52 for the years 1756-1770] researched by M. Pivoteau in 1987. Dates in brackets are confirmed dates at Toulouse, and nicknames are shown in quotes. If a person is listed as being at the Fort in 1756, with no date of arrival in that year, it is assumed that arrival was in 1755 or prior.
