NETIQUETTE GUIDE FOR FORT TOULOUSE EGROUP

The purpose of this group is to share our knowledge and friendship with others of like minds. This group is limited to members and friends of Fort Toulouse, and we confine our discussions on this board to matters that pertain to our common interests in living history.

Appropriate topics include any related to living history and reenacting. Interactive discussions about appropriate topics are encouraged. Sharing research and sources will benefit us all in our desire to be as accurate as possible in our portrayal of life in the 18th century.

To keep the number of messages down, off-topic information and personal responses should be directed to individuals OFF-LIST and should not be posted to the group. When you are replying to a post, please consider replying private to that individual, and not the entire group, unless your response includes information that would be of interest to the group. Consider compiling your own personal mailing list of group members to which you send such messages. This is not suggested in a restrictive spirit, but rather to keep us focused on our common purpose.

When you do reply to the group, please TRIM your email! Those of us on digest find it very difficult to wade through 3 or 4 renditions of the same email to find the actual reply. Trim all headers, footers, and any parts of the email not absolutely necessary to the reply. On the other hand, when you reply to something specific, please include a snippet of that email so we know what you're talking about!

When you forward something to the list, please consider its usefulness and appropriateness. Also, PLEASE delete all the headers when you forward, including the millions of email addresses usually attached to the top of these. No one wants their email address forward upteem hundred times to strangers, and none of us really care to see theirs, either.

Please refrain from posting negative personal comments about other members to the group. Don't say anything over email that you would not say to a person's face! Feelings will get bruised, and people WILL remember the slights at the next garrison weekend. Also, personal comments about individuals or discussions that are unrelated to living history should not be posted to the group. And your friendly moderator will whack you and make you stand in the corner if you don't behave. Repeat offenders will be placed on moderated status... seriously.

As a group, our purpose is to enhance our understanding and knowledge of the time period we portray, and to learn and grow together. We agree to treat each member with dignity, kindness, and the respect with which we want to be treated.
